I just set up a Windows 2003 Standard Server on a 10Mbps 10base2 LAN. I had configured the network card to work in half-duplex mode.
If I pinged a host from the Windows 2003, the latency was over 10ms. When I used one WinXP in the network to ping the Windows 2003 server, the latency was over 100ms. Browing shares on the host was slow as well.
If I booted the same machine with Knoppix, pinging the same host would need only 0.5ms.
What's slowing downing the Windows 2003 networking by over 10 times?
