WAG - Have you tried evaluating all the VarX values to numeric vals 1st - then substituting them into the last equation?
Bit dangerous putting This.refresh in the .activate of a page, as activate happens every time you "touch" it - i.e. multiple refreshes. WAG - Is it possible that placing a value in This.value is kicking off another .activate? Tried it in debug?
