In your position I'd start by making choices now about whether you want a Java/Winforms frontend or a Browser frontend. Browser is very popular in 2005 and is far easier to implement for obvious reasons.
Take a good look at ASP.NET . It is quite different from the old ASP and works well for many sorts of data display and edit. IME and despite rumors to the contrary, VFP people don't find ASP.NET so tough to learn- you can expect them to be doing basic data display/edit stuff within hours rather than days IMHO.
If your change is to occur across 5 years, and if you have lots of intensive VFP algorithms, you may wish to stage your transfer, getting the UI transferred quickly while retaining detailed VFP stuff accessed via mtdll or even via residual VFP fat client apps. Not as fashionable, but it makes business sense.
