>I just spoke to a gentleman at FoxToolBox about an order I had placed recently. In the course of the conversation, I asked how sales were for VFP9. He didn't offer any figures for the upgrade version which I had ordered, but he did say that sales for the full version of VFP9 were about six times what they had sold for VFP7 or VFP8.

Let me clarify something here. While sales of VFP 9.0 might be up for one reseller like FoxToolbox.com, that has nothing to do with overall sales of VFP 9.0 world-wide. This year, we promoted FoxToolbox.com heavily as a great place to obtain VFP 9.0. We had it on the VFP web site, in the big VFP PressPass article in March, etc. So many more people now know about FoxToolbox.com and obviously decided to obtain VFP 9.0 there. As for overall sales of VFP 9.0 world-wide compared to VFP 8.0 at this point (4 months after street date), they are about the same. While VFP 9.0 may be a version some people upgrade to quicker than previous versions, another factor to consider is that some VFP developers have moved to .NET over the past 2 years.

Full version sales doesn't always mean that they are new to VFP. Our research shows some companies actually buy the full version even when they are eligible for the upgrade version and it is just an issue with their own software purchasing department. While there are always new developers starting to use VFP, there are always some retiring or using some other developer tool like VS. Well over half of the VFP customer base has not yet upgraded to VFP 9.0.
