Cetin,

I have built a little gizmo that just goes back and forth (like what you see on some status bars these days) to simply indicate that something is running. It's not a progress bar and reports no percentages. And as you alluded to, it uses a timer to run itself. I haven't put it into a production environment yet, but I will soon.
