I am looking at replacing some CREATEOBJECT calls for instantiating excel and word and using a call to SHELLEXECUTE in its place. Want to broaden an apps ability to link to other doc types including PDFs and would rather let windows deal w/ the associated program.

But is it a valid assumption that SHELLEXECUTE is available on every flavor of windows? is it present on more recent versions??

Any way to test in code for its presence?
