FWIW, I agree with you on the scope issue. I use a scope prefix only for the rare public variable, but I find the one letter type indicator extremely valuable.

While that may be true, it makes sharing the code harder. Without a convention, two different members of the team may use the same name in totally different ways, making it hard to read each other's code.
