For zip, I like Turbo Zip DLL from www.bigspeedsoft.com. This is a simple, lightweight and FAST 64K DLL that does not require COM registration (just copy it to your exe's folder). This is a $65 product. Downside: Have to use DECLARE DLL statements to interface to its features - this makes it more difficult to use than some of the more well-known ActiveX Zip products. For me, personally, the ease of distribution, small size, and low cost more than compensated for the extra coding effort.

For FTP I like Rick Strahl's wwIpstuff, a $100 product from www.west-wind.com. This is another lightweight DLL component that does not require COM registration. There are a bunch of free FTP classes floating around as well, but Rick's product comes with great support and great documentation and a toolbox of other features like HTTP, HTTPS, POP3 and SMTP email capabilities, etc.

Both of the above products are available as free trial evaluations.
