That's completely untrue. Our system has some problems, but your statement is a gross exaggeration.

Here is some of my families medical expenses over the last few years:
- seeing specialist for fertiliy treatments over 3 year period: $200. This $200 was optional, but my doctor had a test that he wanted our acedemic hospital to do.
- wife had a child, private room. Consulting from obstetrician, and other specialists. 1-1 nurse. Some time in the OR. $0
- Dad had two heart attacks in the last 6 months resulting in a double-bypass surgery at the best cardiac hospital in Western Canada. Total stay of 6 weeks in ICUs, general wards, CSICU's, emerg. Total cost $100 for an air ambulance from his small town to Vancouver.
