However, in setting up log shipping it asks for the destination server, and this cant be typed in, the dropdown box has to show the server. I have added the server in enterprise manager on the server I want to back up, but still cant add it in log shipping options. I havent tried a VPN and really dont want that as my only option. Any resolution to this?

The log shipping requires that destination server is running SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition and must be registered.
