That's sort of suprising, back in high school I'd read that the jet engine is the second most efficient means to transport mass, it's only beaten by a bicycle. That statistic might have changed in the last 30 years though.

And so I learned that this type of plane uses 450 lb of kerosene per hour, while an equivalent jet won'd do without about 1400. But the airlines plan to phase the small wing-flappers out and replace them all with jets.
