It sounds like the old Irish hyperbole, much loved in my native Liverpool. I'll give you an example that, if you came from Liverpool, and have half a wit about you, you'd understand immediately. Most people I know don't get it.

Years ago, when we were teenagers (clue) a friend of mine (Jimmy Quinn) hadn't seen his granny for ages. When she saw him she said:

"Ah, look at ol' Get-me-'a'penny-off-the-roof there!"

If you understand then you've active Irish blood in your veins.
