Last summer when I went to Myrtle Beach I could not find a single parking space because every one was taken up by SUVs and minivans that used up two parking spaces. The parking spaces were the same size as the average small size car which wouldn't work for an SUV or minivan. I could not find a single small car in the parking lot other than mine. My daughter and I had to walk because there was not a single space left for my little Saturn coupe... And to think I am cringing at paying almost 20.00/tank of gas when gas was up to 2.25/gallon here... It is amazing how many Americans purchase large vehicles and don't care what type of housing they have or whether or not they can afford it. You would be amazed at the number of folks I see buying food with foodstamps only to load the groceries into a brand new SUV...

>>I must point out that the manufactures build what sells. So the current selection of cars are just what we ordered. In other words, they are right-sized now. :)

>Amazingly though, last night I was flipping back and forth between two local channels, deciding to stay on the one which first finishes the current barrage of commercials and switches to weather forecast - the winner would even get the sound turned on then.
>
>And what was I seeing: both channels were advertising trucks and SUVs, then switched to larger cars and trucks, then SUVs again. Mmm... demand?

>OTOH, how come you have to wait a year to buy a Toyota Prius? I have seen only one commercial for it, which ran for a couple of weeks this winter. Anywhere else, I saw it just listed with other models of the same brand, or not even there.
>
>And this "the tank is safer when hit by another tank" that they advertise these big guzzlers with, is not really an ingenious marketing ploy. It's the same ploy that arms manufacturers have always used.
