SET INDEX will activate an existing index. With cursors, there should be no index initially, and if there is a previous IDX file, it will be outdated.

No, I mean that you create temporary indices with INDEX ... TAG, which will be stored in a CDX file. Perhaps VFP decides to keep them in memory at times - I don't know - but in any case, you don't have any control over it. Nor is it worth-while to worry, IMNSHO.

If you create more than one index, you can switch between them with SET ORDER.
