Hi
--sb--. That was the solution! There was an erroneous entry in the PATH variable created by Norton Ghost apparently. When that was fixed the systems worked again. Many thanks.

The user claims "nothing has changed" :) Anyway, after trying a few things and always getting the same result we wrote a one line program to display a messagebox() only. Compiled to exe and tried to run it. Same result - a message box pops up (not ours) with title "Program Error" and message "Invalid path or file name". Buttons Cancel, Ignore, and Help. None of these help - the program crashes with c5 error.

The user is running AV and has anti-spyware. All the usual suggestions have been made like turning off the AV but to no avail. I thought I would put it out here on the UT for any other possible suggestions.
