However, the issue of ultra-liberal candidates is an issue with a conservative population in America. When the dems realize that and put forth a qualified centrist, they stand a chance (and Hillary is NOT a centrist :) ).
I think Iraq was an issue in 2004 and will be again in the mid-term elections in 2006, but it wasn't enough of an issue to override people's dislike of Kerry. I think people generally liked Bush more than Kerry, and that was the deciding factor.
