Disagree totally on the justification of the war, so no point going there. Seems to me, when the time came to vote on war, the democrats were right in the thick of things - public opinion and all. They may not have orchestrated a war, but they have orchestrated hundreds of social programs that take responsibility away from the individual and put it into the hands of government. For many years. Some of the programs are good, but most have nothing to do with helping the individual, but rather coddle them and keep them from actually contributing to economy. Throw resources at it with no accountability and hope they make it. Or at least, make sure the programs make it. ;-) There are many (many) factors affecting the economy - the least being the war. Historically, economies gain strength during wartime.
