Quaoar is a Venezuelan tribal rain-god. Considering that some of Venezuela down the Orinoco and near Brazil is rainforest, perhaps the intent was to make it difficult to invoke the deity and, hence, less rain.

Tribesman1 - I wish rain! I will invoke our rain-god!
Tribesman2 - We've had too much already! But please try!
Tribesman1 - O, Mighty Qua...que...quo....screw it!
Tribesman2 - Hand me the aloe, I'm getting sunburned.

>>Even having the pronouncement in hand (kwah-o-wahr), one is left with a twisted tongue... having attempted it a few times, I think I have it... it's pronounced "screw it!".

>What matters to me is that the code name is less than 3 syllables which makes it easy and quick to pronounce, and type. :) I've made a typo a couple of times (but caught it via spell checker) typing Senda instead of Sedna. I think Senda is Spanish but I'm not sure what it means. Koziol will let me know here I'm sure. :)
