Thanks for all your help. I think I found the problem...

Before the ImageList loads it looks like you have to actually have images in the list. I loaded some images in the list image control and what do you know... it works fine.

I just didn't do it in an effort to keep everything as simple as possible. Some oversimplification I guess.
