I'm not sure I understand the fuss about "VFP is ended". Even if it is correct to interpret "Sedna in 2 years" as a sign that VFP development is ended, VB6 has *definitely* been ended for a while now but VB6 shops and developers still outnumber everything else for Windows development put together if I understand the stats correctly. I agree that after a decade of FUD, VFP is more vulnerable and some developers are very sensitive and some saboteurs love coming here pressing those buttons, but it seems to me that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

If people are truly concerned about their future, I recommend they take a serious look outside the commodity development space. Examples:

1) Security. Take a look at www.cytech.biz and http://www.clipsal.com/cis/pdf_files/CISNewProducts2005.pdf . There is a *huge* future in smart-wired, secure houses. Somebody is going to make a fortune in this arena in your town. My (US) neighbor earned $400,000 last year managing alarm installations. He isn't even up to the modern devices I referenced above. These devices need programming. I'll bet everybody here could do a far better job than my neighbor.

2) Project Planning. I am 100% convinced that when we look back in 20 years, lousy project planning will be one of the most obvious characteristics of our tech age. There is *huge* scope for competent project planning. Lots of people here could do it standing on their heads and never have to worry about language obsolescence ever again.

3) Windows Media Center / Xbox / extenders. Don't want to sound like a MS shill ;-) but these devices are amazing. forget the Xbox for games. Look at it for music and video. How about all your videos and dvds instantly available from any TV in the house so you can play anything on any TV by clicking the remote. No more lost/chewed videos or dvds covered in kids' greasy fingers ;-) and keep the expensive LOR collector's release safely stored away while playing all of it without ever changing a DVD. Watching the big game and the aunt in Sweden calls? Pause the live TV and resume when you finish the call. You can catch up during the next ads. Meanwhile Munchen's alternative music radio station is playing in the eldest daughter's bedroom and 3000 hours of relaxing 1980s music is playing in the den. Meanwhile your "my ebay" items are scrolling across the botton of the TV. Big $ to be made implementing this stuff and it is a *blast*.

IMHO we need to get past the "is there a next VFP10" and onto "we're all really smart and there is a whole new wave of cool stuff about to strike. Meantime we are assured of VFP support until 2014 and something new called Sedna in 2 years. And I'm worried about what exactly?"
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
