Nice post Joel,

>Here's another way to look at it. From what I gather, Sedna will be a significant effort from the VFP team, and it will contain at least as much content as previous upgrades. This time, the focus is on interop with other platforms, instead of IDE and core VFP enhancements.

I like your words. We have a strong and courageous team working within the Seattle campus with budgeted support for a couple of semesters. That's a very good point.

>it probably won't make sense to call it VFP 10

I'd challenge the "won't make sense". The absence of a clear naming strategy is all about tatictal in-house manoeuvres within MS. Of course the real roadmap is of course a distinct internal document which is definitely clearer than this. But i prefer not to read the real stuff!

You have to accept a fair dose of company politics if you want to work with MS tools. Same thing for Oracle, sun and a few other software groups. Ken has produced some kind of roadmap. This is a great achievement. Fo sure he has had some tough times battling on behalf of the community to produce this document.

If one want real public unbiased technical roadmaps... go "open source". But you pay a heavy price for long-term visibility. In terms of usability, documentation, support and a few other minor issues.

My .2 cents of Euro

Francis
