I should quickly add that I am not going to betray VFP <g> - I will probably continue working with it for many more years, but I do think I must learn additional technology.
This book looks very interesting, especially since it compares .NET to something I know relatively well: VFP. But I am also seriously considering to register in a course, which starts next monday - learning a new technology on my own, without help from an instructor, might be very challenging.
