Your solution is what I was going to propose anyway - select into new cursor, zap the original, append back.
The point with "select from mycursor into mycursor" is that it does work, BUT - there's a moment when the original cursor gets closed and the new one with the same alias opened. During that moment, your grid loses recordsource. So yes, it does generally work, but if it's a grid's recordsource, the grid won't like it.
