>>I note that Visual dBase was codenamed "BladeRunner" - so similar to the VFP 5 handle - hmmm :-)

>And... BladeRunner, the movie, was about a guy who's job it was to kill clones. What inspired Borland to use that code name is that they wanted to have dBase kill the FoxPro clone. Obviously it didn't work, and the RoadRunner got away (just like in the cartoons). :)

That splains it! I notice you have some insights to the history of those times. (Note that BladeRunner was their 32 bit guy which didn't make it to market until severl years later).

There was gossip on the news groups (and a Borland PR affirmed it) somewhere between VFP 3 and 5, that Microsoft had hired away one of Borlands "primere" xBase engineers. The bonuses were astronomical. In fact, if I recall the gossip, more bonus was plied as encouragement to cancel a Woodland Hills/Caulder City wedding that was to be attended by Borland employees.

I don't remeber who that was. I have a Video Tape (came with BladeRunner), that Borland engineers used to explain the tasks and filing rules. The engineers on that tape were all "long hairs" (I was too - but those guys made it look good!).

I remember from Stewarts UT pic he had long hair. So the question is:
Was it you, or Stewart, that MS hired away from Borland - or was it someone else?
