Angling is another word for fishing with a rod (pole as you say in N. America), as opposed to dragging a net in the sea (trawling). I guess it's so called cos of the angle the rod and line make.

Well they call it the World championship but they're predominantly British. I never watch it but, come to think of it, there may be a few Canadians in there.

Is it "Crufts" by any chance, the most prestigious dog competition in UK.? Or is it a dog sport competition, like sheep dog trials?
