I got a new box with XP Media Center installed (basically XP Pro with media extensions). I installed IIS 5.1 (from what I found IIS 6 only runs on Server 2003), installed VS.Net 2003.

I ran the baseline security analyzer and ran the iislockdown tool and selected the machine to be a web server only.

Sunday I tried to create a VS C# ASP Webform project and got a messagebox chastizing me because the 1.1 framework was not setup on the webserver, so I googled the error message and found a posting to tell me to run the 1.1 version aspnet_iisreg -i and now I could create the project.

I started a form and clicked to run it in the debugger and got griped at that IIS was not allowing the DEBUG verb so I reran he iislockdown tool and undid the lock down (which is going to give the BSA fits but the machine is siting behind a Microsoft Wireless router and the box is running McAffee Firewall so it shouldn't be too exposed to attack...)

But starting the form in debug mode I still got a messagebox about not being able to debug the page. What the heck do I have to do to get VS and IIS to play together?

Today I open the project (to get the new "I can't debug this" message to post here) and get greeted by the messagebox saying IIS is not running .Net 1.1... argh! How often do I need to tell IIS to use 1.1?

Should I just trash the VS2003 install and run the VS2005beta?

Life is further complicated because I might play with Media Center Extensions and I found that they can only use the 1.0 framework.
