Instead of programming various routines like replication, you may want to look at "Thin-Client" technology like Citrix (
http://www.citrix.com), or if it is just one or two users over a WAN, PC Anywhere.
Citrix solved my problems very easily, after spending 2 months trying to streamline a system.
