Hi everyone,

We have an old application created in FPW 26 where a number of users are working towards shared DBFs on a local server. This has so far worked fine with NT, Novell and Unix servers.

However, a new client of ours has a large Solstice Unix Network and we have some sad experiences with it.

If one user is accessing the shared files there are no errors occurring, but the queries are very slow at first picking up speed after a couple of minutes.

When another user starts accessing the shared files this connection is also slow to start with. If the speed of the second connection then gains speed the first connection slows down to the same extent. And if the second user is doing a lot of work, the first connection becomes so slow the program stops to respond and has to be restarted.

This is a problem, but the major problem is this:

If both users are working and creating new record in the same table the problem above only allows them to create records one at the time. However, if the first user creates three new records and the second user then "gets control" of the DBFs and creates a new record, the records created by the first user DISAPPEARS.

It is as though they have some local cache writing to the DBFs, the second users cache writing over the new records created by the first user.

If anyone recognizes this problem or knows how the cache of FPW26 works, we would be more than happy get some of that information. At the moment, I am spending most of my time trying to find some solution...
