I finally went to the link.
I see "We offer out-of-the-box solutions for the programming languages C, C++, C# and Java.".
Do you think that might help to explain the top 4 rankings? < BG >
I also read "The index can be used to check whether your programming skills are still up to date or to make a strategic decision about what programming language should be adopted when starting to build a new software system.".
Seems a bit of a stretch to me.
All-in-all I'd rate this as just another piece of useless web-published "information".
cheers
>>Well, the explanation is not at all scientific. Having read the stories of the (Dutch) company's owners, one can expect them to write a scientific explanation, but they haven't.

>I see that the contact address is in the Netherlands, but the company was founded "with the aid of a major investment of Swiss company Synspace and some private investors".
>
>As to the "scientific explanation" - I don't know, really. They state that "The ratings are based on the world-wide availability of skilled engineers, courses and third party vendors." Perhaps they could have given some more details.

>It does seem to be quite popular. A search for "the most popular programming languages" (including the quotation marks) lists a reference to TIOBE as a first hit.

>>An index? Fine, but let it be one from a university or commitee.
>
>Yes, right. But I don't know if such an index currently exists.
