We have users that are using a VFP application to connect to SQLServer2000s. The connection type is password, we are on a mixed network of Novell and Windows so we cannot run trusted. This app has run for over two years and now I am getting connection problems to the servers. One server is local to me (Los Angeles) and another is at our Nevada site. The application uses data from both servers. At first the connection problems occurred when the Nevada users were accessing our server on our VPN. Then last week users here have started having the problem. Local users are getting the connection fail message when they try to access the local server or the Nevada server. The message is
Connection failed:
SQL State: '01000'
SQL Server Error: 1326
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]ConnectionOpen (Create File()).
Connection failed:
SQL State: '08001'
SQL Server Error: 1326
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Client unable to establish connection.
After this message comes up the SQL Connection dialog box comes up. It shows the server's IP address, which I use in the connection string, and if I use the scroll box next to the IP address, after a long delay, I get the servers by name. I select the name of the one I want then the connection is made and the program continues. Some users always get this problem. Others can run reports without the connection failing and then they may go back an hour later and the connection is bad. The clients that are having this problem are usually Win2k and have been running these reports for awhile, they are not new installs.

It's possible settings might have been changed on the SQLservers or the Win2k Servers but no one has mentioned anything and usually if the Network Administrators make changes on these servers they tell us.

TIA,
Margaret
