There are some problems with the 865 Chipset & also SATA drives, see Symantec website, it gives various command line switches to overcome some of the problems.
I think you should try to isolate the problem i.e. try & find out what is causing XP Home to reboot, I would do the following.
1. Hit F8 when booting with the cloned (Bad) drive to get the boot menu.
2. Select the boot with logging option & then let it boot, turn off when it reboots.
3. Install the drive on the secondary controller of a good machine & check out the boot log to see what is causing the reboot.
Other than that upgrade to XP Professional.
