you have to understand that there are a huge number of extremely big applications used around the world, mostly go governments and the military. The value of special purpose applications written in Cobol is much higher than applications written in any other programming language, as far as I know. Some of these applications may be more than thirty years old, but they are maintained and improved over the years, and will not be replaced unless the moon falls down. I am talking about multi-billion USD applications.
