If you want to share information with .NET apps, and those .NET apps are data driven (re: reading their format strings from an INI file, table, or XML config file) then it makes sense to be able to use those same format strings in your VFP applications

At this point in time, I would agree with you. :)
But if you're considering .NET interop (and that seems to be the VFP team's focus), then I believe this type of functionality is a critical component for communicating seamlessly between VFP and .NET.
