My first experience in programming was in 1968. We wrote a sales/billing/inventory system in Cobol B on a Honeywell 120 with 3 tape drives, a card reader/punch, a printer and 8K (yes, I mean 8K) of memory.

Over the years, I have worked on a variety of hardware using an even bigger variety of software. They all have advantages and disadvantages... and they are all history for the most part because they didn't grow and progress with changes in business and technology.

Now I don't want to give you the impression VFP is perfect because it certainly is not. Yes, it has shortcomings. Yes, there are bugs that need to be worked around. No, they haven't included everything that is on my personal wish list for changes and upgrades. I haven't had the opportunity to spend any time with 6.0, but from what I have seen and heard(mostly on this forum)it has fallen a little short of some of my hopes and expectations.

Now... with all that behind us, if you need a database management tool, there is nothing better. In my 30+ years of experience, nothing even comes close.

I take great joy in VFP's positive points and live with the negatives. If you are looking for an alternative, save yourself the time. (Geez I sound like a M$ salesman, but I'm just a happy programmer)
