People who spent years writing Cobol (me, just 2.5 years) couldn't name these, because they were never written. They were always copied from some older code.

And nobody wrote that older code. That is, nobody you could point a finger at. They were all gone by the time you were copying their sections.

Nobody likes Cobol, or at least nobody dares confess to it :). I wrote my last Cobol line about sixteen years ago, and after just a few months of Fox, decided I don't ever want to write another. If it's true that in dot net you need six lines to replace a Fox one-liner, in Cobol the same ratio is at least 20:1... for the stuff you can do. And then there's a lot you simply can't.
