The original standard (802.3ab) was written with CAT5 in mind - full performance up to 100 meters. It should work. If you have any doubts, bring in a qualified installer and have him/her test the cable.

>i wasn't sure where to put this but in here seems as good a place as any. we have a small customer who is upgrading their entire pc setup and we have arranged for some nice dell pc's and a server along with a gb switch. problem is they have cat5 cable and from what i have read on the net i am a bit confused, some sites say cat5 ok other say must be at least 5e to get the benefits of gb switch. Can anyone clarify this for me please as we may have to upgrade their cable to get the benefit of the investment and i would rather do it all in one go.
