I use the free, 110K, standalone Blat.dll available from www.blat.net.

There's sample Blat code scattered across the UT, www.tek-tips.com, and Ed Leafe's Profox archives (leafe.com)

There's also an active and helpful Yahoo news group that supports Blat.

Blat supports the full set of SMTP features including HTML bodies, attachments, custom headers, alternate ports, etc.

I chose Blat over other alternatives such as CDO and MAPI because I was looking for a self contained solution that was not dependent on OS version or OS configurations.
