It goes further than that. There wouldn't have been good intentions to avoid/stop the strike in 1994 because the best record in the majors was hold by the Expos. And, guess what, the probabilities of having two canadian teams in the World Series, which were really high, would have been a total disaster for the MLB. So, add that year as well to the conspiracy theory.
