>>Just like the pull-out from Vietnam lead to the spread of communism.
It certainly led to the spread of communism in Vietnam! Of course Vietnam was completely different from the current scenario- even placing aside the issue of international support, Vietnam was politically more akin to the Kuwait liberation than to the current Iraq exercise. The foe is different as well, since he/she represents a threat to many of our homelands rather than confining him/herself to conveniently distant and abstract locations.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
