>Most of the reporting from Iraq in the major media is focused on the latest bad news, while almost completely ignoring the hundreds of positive stories that could be told about progress being made there.
How's this for cynicism, David...
The media reports mainly bad news regarding Iraq because that keeps the President and Congress deeply focused on the war, leading to more opportunities to slip goodies for corporations into laws and regulations.
Do you think, for instance, that the present situation in the U.S. regarding defaulting on pension plans would be proceeding basically unnoticed were it not for the war "reporting"?... Is easy defaulting on pension obligations viewed as a good thing by corporations?... You bet it is!
I wonder what your Dad thinks about the state of "the press" today? "Fair and balanced" are simply words that no longer have meaning in that business. Profits however is the ruling mantra today, with nothing else mattering.
