It's hard to say. Did you try the VFP 6.0 version of the app on the XP machine? How does it perform?

What function or method are you using to look for the file? Does the XP machine have more files in the folder than the Win2K server? What are the specs and CPU usage on the Win2K server?

Are you using DOEVENTS? The DOEVENTS command is slower in VFP 6.0 which may give the machine more catchup time.
