IIRC, by the time of the LA Purchase, any alliance with France was a distant memory. While Americans originally supported the French Revolution, its ideals had disappeared in the Reign of Terror which immediately followed.
Once the American Revolution was over, I think most Americans had reverted to their basically British roots. By 1803 there had been an undeclared war between the US and France and I think that most bookies would have given odds that the next "real" war would be against France and not Britain. Previous posts that France sold it before it wound up being taken are very much on point.
