I'm looking to find a stable way to produce reports from my system that will be viewable by clients, printable from the system, easy to implement and smart looking.

Currently in use is Excel automation, it's almost perfect, I can setup a neet looking template in excel, note the amount of data rows per page, and a nice bit of code will fill out the page save it as an excel worksheet print it etc. it looks as smart as I like, it's easy to maintain, I just attach it to an email and it's viewable by clients, they can even sort columns at their end to view the data how they want.

but: it's not stable.

Excel streams out a C000005 error a couple of times a day (at seemingly random intervals) taking the main system down with it. I've moved out the printing into a separate shellexecute() call but nothing seems to help.

so, without me writing bundles of code to make a neat way of writing out to a formatted html file what options do I have?

and where should I be looking? I'm not a report orientated person so give me some tips.
