I guess I would convert cursor to XML in data layer, and then in each successive layer convert to cursor for different kinds of processing and then convert back to pass up or down each tier? Maybe I'm missing the point but I'll do some research on that.

ALSO, would the temporary xml files be stored on harddisk or can they be stored in memory and passed that way?
