It's really very simple. In the first instance, somone else was the one determining their physical fate - that's bad. In the second instance, they are either enjoying or detesting the future they have chosen for themselves - that's good. What's wrong with that?

At least 5.5 million Jews were slaughtered in the Holocaust. Possibly as many as 1.5 million were children. Do you honestly believe at the time of their demise, the concept of such a "choice" ever entered their minds?
