Michelle, the VFP online documentation has all the materials that used to be in hard copy. You can search for the OLE examples quite easily.
If you want to get more familiar with using OLE automation, try creating a macro using the VBA macro recorder in any MS Office product. It will generate code based on the menu selections, typing, etc. that you recorded. I found it useful when I wanted to learn automation. Take a look at any of the OLE automation object models as well. You can use the VBA object browser to do this.
