I don't know, but if more users are connected to the same file server, the network might become overloaded. However, this would imply that data is constantly being copied over the network - actually, a lot of data might be transferred (briefly) while the application loads, and then, only now and then.

Better test both with and without, for your specific circumstances. Theory tells me that tag on deleted would make your queries SLOWER (since the index keys for most records will have to be fetched, for Rushmore Optimization), but in some of my tests, it was actually faster having the index.

It may also help to optimize your network. For a start: Does your hub or switch support 100 Mbps, or only 10? Do you use a switch, which is more efficient than a hub?

Also, try to temporarily disable anti-virus software, for testing purposes. Sometimes, this will make a huge speed difference.
