>The Age of Reason or Age of Enlightment ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Age_of_Enlightenment ) was when man became free to think and oppose the will of religous power. This age lead to the industrial revolution and eventually the modern information age. Prior to this time, men such as Galileo were threatened with tortue and eventually imprisoned because the church felt threatened. We might have never had a Newton or an Einstein. Finally as the world becomes more secular, religion becomes less a political force and more of a personal observance.

"The Church" I assume you refer to the Catholic Church. I am a Baptist. Galileo merely proved what the Bible had said all along . . . The earth is suspended in nothing (Job. 26:7). The stars are
innumerable (Gen. 15:5)
