>>What is this a schoolyard?

Not at all... Focusing on trivia so that one can find fault is not something I'd like to see from my kids.

The slogan that "the Catholic Church" did this and that is popular in certain circles. But it collapses at the slightest examination. First, the reported behavior predates the concept of multiple European christian sects, each of which is just as much a descendent of that original European church. Second, it dates to a time when the church wielded great secular power and exhibited the behavior of the powerful. Trying to assign that sort of behavior to religion is a demonstrable failure. I gave examples. Third, every institution has skeletons in its closet. I suppose we could hold a contest to see who can come up with the most embarrassing skeleton, but that tells us nothing. It's just another (liberal) behavior to place people on the defensive.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
