Hi,

I've two W2K servers with IIS/SMTP installed. I haven't needed the SMTP functionality for a while so they've both been stopped for a month or so. Now both of them have the red and white X on the SMTP icon and, when I attempted to start the SMTP server I got "The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely manner. Check windows event log for details"

There was nothing in the log.

On one machine I tracked down the problem to the inderlying SMTP service (inetinfo.exe) not being started but that's not the problem on the second machine. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the SMTP modules with no sucess.

Any suggestions as to what to look for / try next,
TIA,
Viv
